NEW HEAD OF SCHOOL - Christina Broderick

Dear Members of the Marymount Community:

On behalf of the Marymount Board of Trustees, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Christina Broderick as our new Head of School effective July 1, 2018. Chris’s appointment comes with the unanimous support of the Marymount Board of Trustees and follows an extensive and thorough search that attracted a diverse pool of qualified candidates from around the country.

Chris brings 25 years of independent and private school experience which followed her completion of a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology/Women’s Leadership Studies at Mount St. Mary’s University in Los Angeles. A rising star at every step in her career, she first pursued her artistic dreams by completing the Conservatory Program in Musical Theater Performance at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York. She quickly rose to become the Director of Performing Arts at Turning Point School in Culver City, California, where she designed and implemented a new performing arts curriculum and produced more than 25 musical productions. With school leadership firmly implanted as her career objective, Chris honed her school administrative skills as the Assistant Head of Middle School and Dean of Students at the prestigious Parish Episcopal School in Dallas, Texas, serving more than 400 middle school students.

After a short respite to acquire a Master of Science degree in Education Curriculum and Instruction at University of Scranton, Pennsylvania, Chris’s demonstrated leadership qualities were quickly rewarded with her appointment as the Head of School for Notre Dame de Sion Schools in Kansas City, Missouri, where she has proudly served with distinction since 2012. Her leadership has spanned over a school with more than 650 students, 135 employees, two separate campuses, and a multi-million-dollar annual budget. During her tenure as Head of School at Sion, Chris implemented a master planning process that included a $750,000 renovation of the 100 year-old elementary school building and successfully cultivated major donors and alumni to significantly increase the school’s endowment. She also initiated and completed a $4.5 million capital campaign to construct a new high school athletic complex.

Chris is a visionary and charismatic leader, whose enthusiasm and joy for children and commitment to a life of learning and personal growth is evident to all who meet her. She is uniformly regarded by her current and former colleagues as an energetic, clear, and reflective communicator with a collaborative leadership style and student-centered approach. She also shares our community’s vision and commitment to intellectual preparation, individual flourishing, and ethical collaboration. She was, quite simply, the irresistible choice of the Search Committee and the Board of Trustees to assume the mantle of leadership as Head of School at Marymount.

The Board extends the warmest and deepest thank you to all parents, faculty, staff, and alumni who participated in the search process and, in particular, the eleven members of the Search Committee under the indefatigable leadership of Ally Ross. While arduous at times, the search process infused a unique and rich sense of collaboration and transparency into our school community over the recent months. We are also grateful for the support and guidance of our search consultant, Doreen Oleson of RG175.

We look forward to extending a very warm welcome to Chris and her family when they officially arrive on campus in July. We expect that Chris will visit Marymount between now and the end of the school year, as we plan for a seamless transition in our headship. In the meantime, we invite and encourage all in our community to join in a celebration of Andrew and Molly Wooden’s remarkable and indelible leadership at Marymount.
