In grades six, seven, and eight, your child will continue to develop independent thinking skills through challenging academics. Students will be inspired to make moral decisions and learn how to meet the challenges that face today's adolescents.
Your child will be introduced to an exciting academic program that includes three years of a language arts program emphasizing critical reading and writing skills, advanced math classes, science, and Marymount's community service program. Electives are chosen each term, giving your child a chance to develop an area of special interest. Elective choices include art, computer technology, drama, yearbook, photography, leadership, and music.
The result is that basic courses in English, mathematics, religion, science, history, and Spanish are enriched by electives, study skills classes, debate, advisory groups, leadership development, community service, off-campus trips, physical education and competitive interscholastic sports. Small class size ensures your child's opportunity to master a future, college preparatory curriculum. The knowledge, skills, and values encouraged by teachers with high expectations will prepare your child to reach his or her potential.
Your child's physical education will continue in middle school, which includes all of the interscholastic and intramural sports begun in the elementary grades with the addition of tennis and the golf club. As with the earlier grades these sports are offered in conjunction with the President's Physical Fitness Program.
Adolescence is a time of rapid and extensive change. The faculty knows how to help your child channel the energies of the middle school years into positive learning and leadership activities. As a result, your child will reap the benefits of a highly rewarding partnership with his or her teachers and classmates.
